Each local commercial radio station in the UK has requirements in respect of its music and local content, such as news, speech levels etc. These requirements are set out in the station "Format", a document issued by Ofcom, the UK's radio regulator.
This Public File contains details of the elements that Ofcom regulate, such as music tracks, local news etc. It is intended to give you a better understanding of our output and what we are doing for our local community.

News and traffic and travel information;
Horizon Radio broadcasts its news bulletins every half an hour between 0600 and 0900 and hourly from 0900 and 1800 on weekdays. There is a 10 minute news programme that is on weekday evenings at 1800 - Horizon Tonight wraps up the days news, sport and entertainment along with the latest travel news.
At the weekend the newsteam provide local news between 0700 and 1300 on Saturday and between 0800 and 1300 on Sunday. All bulletins contain a mix of local and national news along with local and national sports coverage plus weather information for MK and North Bucks. Additionally national news bulletins are broadcast hourly from 2200 until 0500.
Horizon Radio provides local travel bulletins every 15 minutes between 0615 and 0900 and then an additional bulletin at 0930. In the afternoon the travel bulletins are broadcast every 15 minutes between 1530 through to 1845.

Automated programming: There is currently no automated programming on Horizon Radio. (NB: Although we often record the requests for our lunchtime request show which is broadcast between 1300hrs and 1400hrs, this programme is not automated).
Local programming: Horizon Radio's weekday output from 0600hrs until 1000hrs and 1300hrs until 1900hrs, and weekend output from 0800hrs to 1200 on Saturday and Sundays is produced and presented from our Milton Keynes studios.
Other programming (Phillipa Collins, The Kevin Hughes Evening Show, The Wind Down with Cat James, The Overnight Show, Party Anthems with Gaz Wesley, Jeremy Kyle, Mark Dennison, Jo Russell, Jason Donovan and Hit 40UK) is produced at various studios, owned and operated by Horizon Radio's parent company GCap Media plc

Ofcom, the government regulator with responsibilities for local radio, has produced localness guidelines that this station adheres to. These guidelines can be read here
In addition all local radio stations have written ‘formats' that they must follow at all times. You can read Horizon's here
If you have a complaint to make about Horizon Radio, in the first instance you should contact the programme controller at the address below. If you are unhappy with the response you receive, you can complain directly to the regulator, Ofcom. Their website has full details about how to do this.

Horizon Radio is proud to be a part of the fastest growing city in Europe and we aim to help all charitable and non profit making groups with their local events through publicity. You can send in your events here
Horizon Radio is also proud to support and be associated with the Milton Keynes Community Foundation. A local independent grant making charity whose vision is to create a culture of giving that strengthens and supports the local community. Over the last 7 years Horizon has built a fund through our Pound a Plug days and charity auction weekends that local groups can apply to for funding. Horizon Radio is also the media partner for many local fundraising events such as the Cancer Research UK Race for Life and the Get on Yer Bike event for Cancer research UK at Furzton Lake.
We also regularly visit many fetes, fairs, carnivals and open days across Milton Keynes and North Bucks and over the last 12 months the Horizon Thunder Crew have attended over 75% of these local events.
Recent Programming and or/News highlights;
Horizon Radio is the official media partner for the National Bowl and we always cover the major events held at the Bowl. Take That, Bon Jovi and Robbie Williams were the main highlights of 2006. We gave away tickets to all three concerts.We host many events over the summer including the Summer XS in the Park, West Bletchley Carnival, MK4U in Campbell Park and Stoke Goldington Steam Rally.
We are live at every Milton Keynes Dons home game to keep you up to date with how the Dons are getting on in League Two.
