Rain didn't 'stop play' and THE most awesome event in the Milton Keynes calendar, the 8th spectacular West Bletchley Carnival went ahead despite of early drizzle!

Crowds lined the route and looked on spell-bound at the colourful parade. They laughed at the antics of Musical Ruth and Poles Apart dressed as The Beatles!  They weren't disappointed as they listened to the splendid Shirley Pipe Band leading from Melrose Avenue at 1pm. The judges (this year included Phyllis Starkey MP, Chris Gregg from Heart, the new Mayor and Mayoress of Milton Keynes Mr & Mrs Euan Henderson and Cllr Barbara Moore) had the unenviable task of choosing the best entries.

After much deliberation, they chose St Thomas Aquinas School as the winner for the Arts Workshop Trophy (Supported by Festive Road), First Saints Scout Group as the Most Original Entry and the winner of the Independent Class was Diamond School of Performing Arts.

The crowds made their way to Rickley Park at 2pm and continued being entertained in the main arena by the exciting & educational Essex dog display team - the only civilian dog display team ever to be selected to appear at The Royal Tournament in front of the of her Majesty The Queen & Prince Phillip! Following that was the breath-taking Royal Signals White Helmets Motor Cycles Display Team.  At 5pm, the on looking thousands were asked to gaze skywards again (earlier the BBMF Hurricane had flown over) for the Royal Artillery Black Knights Parachute Display Team and watch their descent into the arena despite the grey clouds!

Elsewhere, the audience was awestruck by the talented youngsters 'strutting their stuff' in the dance tent (this year...due to the overwhelming success...was much bigger and better and being run by Heart) and continued to enjoy all the other spectacular attractions the carnival is now famous for.

Lots of cash was raised by local charities and this year's nominated charity is Bletchley Park Trust.
